Nature Trail

Today we were doing maintenance on the nature trail. Some volunteers from BNZ came to help us. We hauled out red poker plants and agapanthus. While Mr Mitchell was trying to dig out a poker plant he was using his spade as a lever and his spade broke on the fulcrum.

Some of the weeds were a nightmare to take out but some were really easy. We used secateurs, spades, shovels, forks and rakes. It took the whole day. It was a very hard but worthwhile day.

Native Tree Planting

On the last day of term 3 five volunteers from the Bank of New Zealand came to school to do some community work. They helped a group of children from enviro group plant native trees on our bush walkway.

The Bank of New Zealand also donated 25 Horopito shrubs that were planted on the same day.

Our bush walkway is an ongoing project. We hope to encourage native wildlife by growing native trees and shrubs and getting rid of the weeds.

Kimberhall Walkway

What a mess it was! We are working very hard to clear away the overgrown edge of the walkway. Each day we clear away the rubbish that blows in from the road. Next we will be painting murals to put along the fence.

Flower Planting

Today at envirogroup we planted some flowers. First we made a hole in the soil then we took the flower out of the punnet and pinched its roots. We then put it in the hole. We repeated this a few more times. After that we watered the flowers. It was a very enjoyable day.

Orchard

Our aim is to grow a sustainable orchard on our top bank. We hope to grow fruit to sell and fruit to eat. If we can sell fruit we can buy more trees.

Compost and Worm Farm

The whole school is putting all our food scraps into the compost or worm farm. The Junior children set up the worm farm and sorted all our compost. We are using the compost on our school gardens.
