Bronze Award

All our hard work this year has paid off. On Friday 4 December, Nikhil, Claudia and Jordan went with Mrs Ebsworth and Mrs Dale to Tirimoana School to receive the new Bronze Award. Nikhil said a short speech and then Jpordan and Claudia received the award.
Well done to the whole enviro group.

BNZ helping the community

On Wednesday 4 November we were lucky enough to get help
from the BNZ when they closed for the day to help in the
community. They spent all day working on our nature trail,
cutting down privet, weeding and digging out poker plants
and agapanthus. They also started to re gravel the pathway.
We thank them for their help.

Painting fun.

Today we painted the worm farm and some of the area around the gardens to make it look attractive. Before painting some clearing of weeds had to be done. We are not sure whether the paint went on the wood or on us!

The vegetable gardens are starting to produce great vegetables. Room 19 will be eating well for lunch.

Our New Challenges

Our first new challenge this term is to save power by turning off the lights and heaters when we are not in the room.
Our second challenge is to have a sustainable system to recycle plastic, mostly yohurt pottles. The Juniors are up and running and so are Rooms 10, 12, 13, 18 and 19. The enviro reps from the other classes will report back at our next meeting.
Because we are learning about fizzing and foaming this term the Middle and Senior class reps have an extra voluntary challenge. This is to find a greener alternative for our cleaning products. What we use now is not that good to go down our drains so maybe some household items or a mixture of them will be better.

Birds

Some people went with Mr Mitchell and put up some bird houses.

Other people went with Mrs Ebsworth and made bird food.

We mixed 1/2 cup of bran, 1/2 cup of muesli, 1/2 cup of bread crumbs and 1 cup of fat.

We want to attract birds to our school near our native trail.

Rubbish Free Lunches

At our school we are trying to have no packets in our lunchbox.
Then we will have no rubbish to go in our bins or to go home.
This will be good for our school and the world.

First Fruit

We have harvested the first fruit from our orchard, one lonely fig, but considering it is the first year for the tree we are very pleased. We hope the others will ripen.
